One of the worst things that you can do in this life is to live for others and not yourself. So here I'm giving you some inspiration of ways you can live to find out who you really are and some questions to ask yourself to begin your journey. Sometimes people need a wake up call to even realise they haven’t been living in a way that nourishes their soul so if this reached you, see it as an opportunity to grow. You are loved so remember to love yourself equally.
travel the world
Stepping out of your every day environment and indulging into different cultures and beautiful sceneries cleanses your soul. Your feet form their own paths and the axis your mind rotates on is changed forever. You discover new passions, pick up new hobbies all while contributing towards a growth mindset. By expanding your comfort zone, you find more things to seek comfort in. So make a list of all the different places you’d like to visit one day and work towards it, life is too short so lives yours.
start treating every day like it’s a special occasion
Use your favourite perfume. Wear that outfit you’ve been saving. Start that new hobby. Light that expensive candle. Time is not promised so treating every day like a special occasion creates a ripple effect in your life, you suddenly start to feel happier. The outcome of your day is how you make it out to be.
find your own aesthetic
Many trends from media’s reside within our generation whether it’s how to dress , or how our appearance should be. All that matters is that you’re happy with yourself despite external perception. So to see what styles or niches align with you and your persona , making mood boards or saving inspiration are a sincere way of achieving this.
spend more time with things you’re passionate about
In the world we live in, to make ends meet we have to work for a large percentage of our lives. That odd moment of time you have to yourself, instead of scrolling, pick up an old hobby. Whether it’s journaling , painting , photography or anything else, there’s importance in doing activities that ground you and contribute to your individuality. If you don’t have one, this is your sign to start a new one <3
Journaling
I find that journaling is one of the best ways to get to know yourself. All your thoughts on to paper allows you to see them from a different perspective and helps to clear you mind of all the things you don’t say aloud. It allows you to sit with and process your emotions whether positive or negative and it’s basically a free form of therapy.
Be willing to change who you are to be the person you want to become
When confusion arises from not immediately possessing the lifestyle you desire , remember that flowers don’t grow without rain. The journey won’t be easy, but you should see it as a learning curve. Your habits determine your future so there’s a chance you have to do things differently to see a change in the life you want to live.
Learn to set boundaries
By fearing saying no to others, you are holding yourself back. You unintentionally entrap yourself in situations that may contribute to the deterioration of your individuality. By setting boundaries, you do yourself a favour and only indulge in matters you feel comfortable with and at times, gain respect from others by knowing what you want. There’s danger in people pleasing because you do it at the expensive of the life you could have lived.
Be intentional
Whether it is the media you consume, the food you eat, or how you spend your free time. You learn more about yourself and end up achieving a day filled with more productivity than usual. Instead of doom scrolling, read a book, pick up an old hobby or get some work done. Instead of fast food, head to the kitchen and learn how to make a new dish with any ingredients you possess. Be intentional with the people you surround yourself with, simply they either catalyse or slow down the growth of your mindset and good morals you obtain.
turn to faith
Faith of course is different for everyone, no matter your religion or beliefs, everyone believes in something - even if it’s nothing really at all. As a Christian I turn to Jesus at times of content and despair which has really shaped the life I live and helps me live by good morals. By exploring different faiths and religions, it could seriously align with you and possibly have you decide to start following one. It’s harder if you haven’t grown up with a certain belief system but there’s no reason why you can’t have or change to one now.
Don’t hide your true self in fear of judgement
Stop putting yourself in a shell and hiding yourself from the world when you have so much to give and share with others. No matter what makes you happy, giving time to them is one of the things that will truly get your spark back or keep it prominent. External influences and expectations set by our society on how we are supposed to act shouldn’t influence how you live. Someone out there is praying or longing to have a connection with someone like yourself so if you’re hiding how will they find you?
spend a weekend rebranding yourself
Although this won’t take just a weekend, it’s a good place to start. Ask yourself questions of who you want to be and all the habits they have and start acting on it. Create routines that you love and through this romanticise your days as much as you can. Find creators that you look up to and use them as inspiration for your rebrand but remember it won’t look exactly like yours!
